Agreeing to these terms

Short version: Using Moat means you accept these terms.

These terms apply when you create an account, publish a page, or use Moat.page services. If you use Moat for an organisation, you confirm you're allowed to accept these terms for it. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data.

Who can use Moat

Short version: You must be 16 or older.

You must be at least 16 years old and able to form a binding agreement. You can't use Moat if we've previously removed you for breaking these terms.

Your account

Short version: Keep access to your email secure. You're responsible for your account.

You sign in with your email and a one-time code. Anyone with access to your email may be able to sign in, so keep it secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account. One person, one personal account.

Your content

Short version: It's yours. You give us permission to host it and show it according to your settings.

You keep ownership of everything you add to Moat. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, format and display your content, and to share it with partner apps you connect, in each case only as needed to run Moat and only within your visibility settings. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already sent to connected apps (which we'll ask them to delete) and backups that expire on our normal cycle.

You're responsible for making sure your content is accurate and that you have the right to post it. Don't claim jobs, qualifications or credentials you don't hold.

Acceptable use

Short version: Be honest and respectful. Don't abuse the service.

You agree not to:

• impersonate anyone, or misrepresent your identity, experience or affiliations;
• post unlawful, hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or misleading content;
• send spam or unsolicited promotions through connections or messages;
• scrape, copy or harvest data from Moat, except through the API under partner terms;
• probe, disrupt or overload our systems, or get around rate limits and access controls;
• use Moat to break the law or other people's rights.

Partner apps

Short version: Apps you connect show your page. Their own terms also apply.

Partner apps are separate products that can display Moat pages. When you connect one, we share your page with it according to your settings. Each partner app has its own terms and privacy policy, and it's responsible for its own service. Developers who build partner apps must accept the partner terms.

Company and service pages

Short version: Only publish pages you have the right to publish, and keep them accurate.

By creating a company page, you confirm you're authorised to represent that company. By listing a service, you confirm you can deliver it as described, including pricing. Buyers and providers make their own agreements. Moat isn't a party to them.

Fees

Short version: Individual pages are free. We'll announce paid plans before they apply.

Personal pages are free. Company and service pages are free during early access. If we introduce paid plans, we'll publish prices on our pricing page before charging, and payments will be processed by Werify under its terms. Nothing becomes paid without your agreement.

Scores and signals

Short version: Scores and signals are information, not advice or judgments.

Status signals and any scores Moat shows, including HAPI if it launches, are informational. They aren't professional, hiring, credit or other advice, and they aren't guarantees about any person.

Suspension and ending

Short version: You can leave any time. We can suspend accounts that break these terms.

You can delete your account from your settings at any time. We may suspend or remove content or accounts that break these terms or put others at risk. Where it's safe and lawful, we'll tell you why and give you a way to respond. When an account is suspended or deleted, connected apps are notified.

Disclaimers

Short version: We work hard to keep Moat running, but it's provided as is.

Moat is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties such as merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't verify every claim people make on their pages.

Liability

Short version: Our liability is limited, except where the law says it can't be.

To the extent the law allows, Moat won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim relating to the free service is limited to one hundred US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

Changes

Short version: If these terms change meaningfully, we'll tell you first.

We'll post changes here and update the date above. For meaningful changes, we'll notify account holders before they take effect. Continuing to use Moat after that means you accept the updated terms.
